Just a Pill

Today the Senate Judiciary Committee starts hearings on Neil Gorsuch, who has been nominated by the Pussy-Grabber-In-Chief to be the vote on the Supreme Court that finally overturns Roe v Wade. While Dems in the Senate try to get to the well-concealed facts about Judge Neil, we thought it would be a good time to spread a few actual facts about abortion and birth control.

But first, here’s a little known reproductive fact about potential conservative Supreme Court Justices–they aren’t really born. They’re hatched in rightwing think tanks like the Heritage Foundation. Then, they spend their entire pre-SCOTUS lives in total darkness.

That means that, despite being sent to the finest law schools, clerking for other Justices, and serving as appellate court judges, they very carefully and very intentionally leave little or no paper trail of writings or decisions on abortion-related issues. That way when their Senate Judiciary Committee hearings come up, their obvious hostility to reproductive rights isn’t hung around their necks like a misogynistic albatross.

Sure enough, Judge Gorsuch has been the ideal stealth justice-in-waiting. His views on abortion have to be surmised from things like his opinions on assisted suicide. That way you technically don’t know for sure what you’re getting until it votes to take your control over your own body away from you.

It’s similar to the campaign of lies and misinformation about the science around birth control and abortion. When anti-choice nutjobs say that certain methods of birth control like the IUD and the Plan B pill are forms of abortion, they’re just plain wrong. And we mean “wrong” as in scientifically, factually, welcome-to-reality WRONG.

In fact, it’s plain and simple enough that we were able to put it into cartoon form. Check it out here. It’s all in an easy-to-swallow format that you can enjoy while Senate Republicans try to ram Neil Gorsuch down your throat.

See Ya, Wouldn’t Wanna Plan B Ya

Fwak Yessssss! In another great win for Repro Rights the Supreme Court said talk to the hand to those who wanted to challenge Washington state’s mandate that pharmacies must stock emergency contraception.

Since 2007 it has been the law in Washington that a pharmacy must have Plan B available. It is not the law that a pharmacist has to give it out. Say for example Plan B offends your personal sense of morality you do not have to sell it to someone, but there must be someone working that will. That’s the law. Seems fair to us. (Bordering on already favoring religious freedom since it’s not like CVS is a church.) And you know what offends our morality?! Questioning women’s medical choices.

In 2012 the owners of a pharmacy/grocery store in Olympia Washington, the Stormans, said that giving out emergency contraception at their family business violated their beliefs. They assert that Plan B is an abortion. The Medical community has clearly stated that before the fertilized egg is implanted (which Plan B prevents from happening) there is no pregnancy to abort. So a good question here would be when did pharmacists stop trusting in science? Seems like the wrong field to be in if you don’t believe in medicine no? Maybe don’t be a pharmacy then? Perhaps just stick with the grocery store part of your family business. Just a thought….

HOW CAN WE ACCOUNT FOR VIOLATING PEOPLE’S BELIEFS WHEN THE BELIEF IS SCIENTIFICALLY INACCURATE AND WE ARE IN A SCIENTIFIC SETTING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

SCOTUS was like come on, we’ve been over this. Deny, deny, deny review! Thank you Supreme Court —> nicely done! Suck it Stormans.

Women Got Your B For Back

POD_032216-01The internet has been Plan B buzzing since Reddit user carlinha1289 posted her experience about purchasing the morning after pill for a Quebec teen. Other women jumped in to share similar experiences. Conversations are being started. Articles are being written. Women are coming together to help each other –> ’cause we cool like that.

Plan B is not an abortion bill (this is often a misCONCEPTION — get it — ahahahaha —> ok we’ll show ourselves out). The goal of Plan B is to prevent a person from getting pregnant up to 72 hours after that someone’s birth control failed or for whatever reason which is nobody’s business but their own. It’s emergency contraception, birth control in overtime.

In the United States, legally speaking, Plan B (or one of its generic forms) is available on pharmacy shelves for anyone to purchase. We say ‘legally speaking’ because we want you to know it’s your legal right; even if a pharmacy tries to do some shady shiznit like put it in an awkward place or some pimply teenage boy working at the register tells you he morally doesn’t want to sell it you. It’s there. You can buy it. Get another cashier who doesn’t have boner problems.

HOWEVER, just because it is available does not mean that girls don’t feel embarrassed getting it, that people aren’t shaming them when they’re trying to purchase it, that they can afford it, that they aren’t afraid their parents will find out and a host of other issues.

So… Women are stepping up to pay it forward. If you are in need of the Morning After Pill but are feeling scared of getting it yourself don’t be afraid to reach out. We got your Plan B back, girls looking for help, because the B is for Buddy!

Murder, He Wrote

POD_030916You’ve heard the chant “Abortion is Murder”? Now imagine that phrase codified as law. That’s exactly what Oklahoma Senator Joe Silk wants to do. Hey Joe Silk, if you’re going to be fucking with people, try not to have a name that sounds like the villain in a cheesy Frank Miller graphic novel rip-off.

Silk has authored a bill that would abolish abortion in Oklahoma and make anyone performing an abortion guilty of first degree murder. Of course, that’s essentially the long-term goal of the anti-abortion movement, but Smooth Joey Silk is getting way ahead of the curve here.

The bill passed committee but is currently being held up by Republican leadership, who feel that it goes too far. And “too far” for Republican lawmakers in Oklahoma is a place that few people have gone indeed.

The bill says “No person shall perform or induce or attempt to perform or induce an abortion after conception. A person commits murder in the first degree when that person performs an abortion as defined by Section 1-745.5 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statutes.” It also stipulates that abortion is “the use or prescription of any instrument, medicine, drug or any other substance or device to intentionally kill an unborn human being” and protects the “unborn” from the moment of conception.

So, a woman taking a Plan B pill would be guilty of murder just like any hard-boiled mug with a gat. These grifters are tryin’ to give us the bum’s rush, I’m tellin’ ya.
